Patron Saint Festivities and Piedad Fair
The festivities and fair of La Piedad are held every year in mid-August, coinciding with its big day on August 15, where numerous events are held in honor of the patron saint and where the traditional fair takes place at the fairgrounds.
Almendralejo’s Patron Saint Festivities are normally held from August 12 to 17. Among the most important events is the celebration of a novena in honor of the Virgen de la Piedad. The most important events are concentrated on August 15: the ascent of the Virgin to her sanctuary, coronation of the queen and her ladies, proclamation of the festivities, appointment of the honorary winemaker, obtaining the first grape juice and blessing and offering of fruits to the Virgen de la Piedad. Numerous booths and attractions are set up at the fairgrounds, without forgetting the contests, the wine fountain and bullfights.
